Richard Heimlich

Jerry and I grew up on the streets of East Camden. He on the corner house of 24th and Carmen and me right around the block at 2631 Carmen Street. He and Keith Rose were always at our home visiting and we shared much of our lives over the years spanning the late 1950's, 60's 70's, 80's, etc. We all hung out on the corner at Kogan's Drug Store and more so at the Holly Diner both located on Federal Street in East Camden. We all attended Woodrow Wilson HS. Jerry dated my sister Diane for a few years and wrote to her while stationed abroad in the Navy. Jerry and his father would play guitar and I would often sing to accompany the tunes. In Camden we all had nick names and we all called Jerry the "Rodent" due to his last name. I was Beetle, Jim Devenny was the "Giant Head ", Jerry Molineaux was the "Buzzard", etc. What fun we had and none of this was offensive at all. In the 1970's when my first marriage broke up Jerry and I lived together for a brief time and later, while he was on the Philadelphia Police force, we often got together to catch up. Unfortunately as life goes, we lost touch for many years but we did get together for a one night reunion about 5/6 years ago just before he moved to PA. All the condolences I have read about Jerry's warm and giving ways are 100% on target. He was a very unselfish and caring human being and the world will certainly be a less welcoming place without him. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends and I hope all the wonderful memories of Jerry will help to sustain you through this time of grief. Richard T. Heimlich rheimlich@comcast.net
