Obituary for Vincent "Doc" Scialabba

Vincent John Scialabba, known to his friends and loved ones as "Doc," age 80, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 in Westville, NJ. Born in Philadelphia to Salvatore Scialabba and Helen (née Nicastro), he started his career early at the Budd Company as a die setter in the UAW Union. Along with 33 years of service, he also owned Pizzarama in South Philadelphia.

Doc loved spending time with his family and dinners out were the highlight of his days. He was a gifted raconteur and in true Italian-American fashion could tell an entire story talking with his hands. You could usually find him enjoying a vodka martini (in and out, up, with olives).

He was an avid film enthusiast and had a wide-ranging taste of genre and style. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge when it came to actors and actresses and loved to dive into his own catalogue of recordings. He never forgot a birthday and had an uncanny ability of keeping very detailed notes and records of birthdays, anniversaries, and important dates of loved ones. If you were one of the lucky ladies in his family, you would even get a happy birthday performance in his Sinatra-style. He was always the first person to call for your birthday. Doc had a great singing voice and loved to croon in his Cadillac.

He is survived by his daughter, April DeFrancesco, and pre-deceased by his son, Damon Scialabba. He is survived by his grandchildren, Ava Gallagher (Ryan), Vincent DeFrancesco, and Nicholas DeFrancesco. His also survived by brother Carmen Scialabba (Gerri) and his nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held for immediate family. Relatives and friends are welcome to celebrate his life the way he would have wanted on Saturday March 9th.
