Obituary

IZZO
VALENTINO M. “VAL”; April 23, 2020. Val was born on Valentine’s Day in 1945. “Uncle Val the Kiddies Pal”, a big kid himself, loved and was loved by all children, especially his nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He told hilarious stories and had a wild sense of humor. The neighborhood handyman, he left more tools in the homes of those he helped on Rosewood and Hicks Streets in South Philly. Val was employed as a police officer with the Philadelphia Police Department for 30 years until his retirement in 2003, and later employed with the Union League of Philadelphia in the security department until his retirement in 2007. Val built his dream house and retired to Cape May Courthouse and loved spending time on the beach and boardwalk with his children and grandchildren. He spent his final years wreaking havoc amongst the staff and residents of the Voorhees Center.

He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia (nee Burns). He was the father of Mark (Susanna), Michele (Sean) Mellon, and Valerie Izzo. Loving Pop of Christian, Matthew, Taylor, Brandon, Nicholas and Olivia. Bonus Pop of Stephanie, Ryan, and Matthew. Brother of Anthony Izzo. Brother-in-law of Mary Ann (Joseph) Dey and the late Eileen Perez. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Memorial Gathering and Mass will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made in Val’s memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, New York, NY 10163- 4777, or Philadelphia Police Survivor’s Fund, FOP, Lodge #5, 11630 Caroline Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154-2110

The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to those who cared for Val at the Voorhees Center and Compassus Palliative Care.

Mr.Izzo, I’ll always remember you when I was a kid on Rosewood St. You were the real deal 70’s cop in that leather jacket and you always took us kids up the street with your son Mark roller skating .RIP Michael Pittelli and Family
