Obituary:
Izzo, Patricia “Pat” (nee Burns); December 31, 2020, age 76.
Pat was the beloved wife of the late Valentino “Val” Izzo who predeceased her by 8 months. She was the loving mother of Mark (Susanna), Michele (Sean) Mellon, and Valerie Izzo. Adoring MomMom to Christian, Matthew, Taylor, Brandon, Nicholas and Olivia, and bonus MomMom to Stephanie, Ryan and Matthew. Sister of MaryAnn (Joseph) Dey and the late Eileen Perez. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pat was born and grew up in South Philadelphia. She was a “Goretti girl” and attended Saint Maria Goretti High School with some girls who remained life-long friends.
Pat married Val in April 1964. They raised their family in South Philadelphia where she lived most of her life before eventually moving with Val to Cape May Courthouse to enjoy family, friends and the beauty of the Jersey shore. She loved having her children and grandchildren visit and spend weekends with her at the shore, and enjoyed having big Sunday dinners for the family and anyone that visited.
Pat had many different jobs throughout the years but the job she loved the most was the one in her later years serving children with special needs, first in the Middle Township School District and then in the Clearview Regional School District in New Jersey. She was a dedicated team member working until she was no longer able to do so. Pat took great pleasure in this role and loved the kids she served.
Pat was recently diagnosed with leukemia. When treatment was no longer an option, she chose to spend her last days in the care and comfort of The Samaritan Center in Voorhees, NJ. Many friends and family were able to visit over her last days, where she died peacefully with her daughters by her side.
Relatives and Friends are invited to her visitation with her family January 23rd 10am at the Church of Saint Monica 17th and Ritner Streets followed by her Funeral mass at 11am.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at The Samaritan Center at Voorhees who cared for Pat with the utmost dignity and respect in her final hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Pat’s memory to Samaritan either online at samaritannj.org or Samaritan Gift Processing Center, PO BOX 71425, Philadelphia, PA 19176-1425.
