Michael and I met working at the Knit Wit in Philadelphia back in the late Sixties and remained friends for forever. We were in our early twenties trying to find ourselves then. Michael looked like a Rock Star when I met him. Underneath all the silver jewelry, snake skin pants and platform shoes was a sweet, kindhearted and wholesome guy even though a stranger once called him “unorthodox”. That word that made us giggle for years.

I was delighted to watch Michael grow over the decades. He got his GED, learned to drive and embarked on a teaching career which he dearly loved.

Michael above all loved his parents and his little sister Kathy who would eventually become his biggest champion in life. When his nephew came along I watched him become a wonderful Uncle which was life changing for him.

Michael was born on July 1stand I was born on July 2nd. I never dreamed that we would spend 50 years celebrating our birthdays together. This year a kind nurse at St. Monica Center for Rehabilitation held a phone to Michaels ear so I could wish him Happy Birthday. I didn’t realize it at the time that it would be his last Birthday on this Earth.

Michael will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

With love,
Vera Blair McGuire
