LE VINE
Julian W, 96, passed on October 9, 2020 at Hayes Manor in Philadelphia, PA. He was the husband of his beloved wife, Marilyn Ann and the father of Deborah Huff, Kenneth LeVine, John LeVine and Robert LeVine and grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Julian grew up during the Depression and entered the Army Air Force in 1943 serving until 1946 as a B-24 bomber mechanic. While in the service he took up boxing and held several boxing titles around the US. In 1946, he entered Syracuse University under the GI Bill becoming a four-year boxing letterman under Coach Roy Simmons Sr and graduating with a degree in Physical Education. After coaching for a couple of years in New Jersey and at Stillwater, NY, Julian, and his small family moved to McKnownville where he would live for the next 62 years. Hired as the PhysEd coach at Westmere Elementary he taught first through sixth grade gym class until he retired in 1986 with a “Julian LeVine Day”. Over the thirty years of teaching at Westmere, Julian touched the lives of three generations of Westmere students as “Coach”.
He was active in community affairs as a past president of the Kiwanis Club and the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad. He was a devote member of the Mcknownville United Methodist Church. Always very athletic, Julian loved camping, hiking, and sitting at McDonalds talking with friends. He is greatly missed by his family and friends for his wit and his caring way with all people. Services will be held in Albany in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation of any amount to the charity of your choice.
