Obituary for Jorina R. Ahmed
On the morning of June 21, 2019, Jorina Rabia Ahmed of Philadelphia passed away at the age of 81. Jorina was born to Jamir Uddin Ahmed and Sunerdean Verna Pasqual in 1937. Jorina married Ernest F. Hurst in August of 1960 and together have two children; Holly M. Hurst and Deron J.K. Hurst.
Jorina devoted her life to not only to her children but to multiple social services programs, including helping set up Hospice in Virginia, managing three states for Ameri-Corp, tutoring children in mathematics, science and English. She was a support to so many people throughout her life, always caring and giving of herself whenever anyone was in need.
She enjoyed being with her family and many friends, played the violin and piano, listening to music, the arts, reading, and traveling in the U.S and abroad.
Jorina is preceded in death by her father Jamir Uddin Ahmed, her mother, Sunerdean Verna Pasqual, siblings; Juan C. Perez, Sunerdean Perez. Santiago R. Perez, Domingo Perez, Miguelito Perez, and Manuel Ortiz. She is survived by her siblings; Jamir Ahmed, Nilufar Ahmed O’Daniel, Monir Ahmed, Bernadette Ahmed Young, Mohammed Ahmed, Don Perez, Lolita D. Perez and Jermilla M. Ortiz as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at St. Paul Church, 923 Christian St., Philadelphia, PA 19147 (https://www.stpaulparish.net/). Viewing is from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Mass at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery. A repast will be held at the Annunciation BVM Church at 1511 S 10th St, Philadelphia, PA 19147 (https://www.annunciationbvmchurch.org/) from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Labre Indian School (www.stlabre.org).
