Carmen “Bartsy”. March 17 2023. Carmen was born and raised in South Philadelphia. He lived a fulfilling life starting off as a boxer. In his career, he had 19 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw as a welterweight. This Southpaw from South Philly was inducted into the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame. After his stellar career in boxing, Bartsy became a Carpenter for the Philadelphia School District and was later elected Secretary-Treasurer for Local 1201 for many years as a respected and passionate leader.
His most important career in his life was being a devoted husband, an amazing patriarch to his three daughters, and a lovable Popie to his five grandchildren. He was lucky enough to find his perfect other half, Dorothy Bartolomeo (nee Lapolla) spending 62 blissful years in love. Carmen was a devoted father to Valentina, Jamie Ann (Michael) Hagan, and Elizabeth (Mark) DiFrancesco. A loving Popie to Michael, Mark, Maria, Joseph, and Nicolina. Carmen was also a loyal brother to Albert and Grace (Jim) Rementer and the late James and Joseph. He was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carmen had many hobbies during his illustrious life: dancer, inventor/craftsman, family filmmaker, bocce ball player, and professional beach bum in Wildwood, NJ. Carmen touched the lives of many people, and was able to give his light and wisdom to so many. He will always be in their hearts with the sound advice to help those that he cared for. Carmen was one in a million and he will always carry a special place in our hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to his VIEWING Wednesday evening March 22, 2023 7PM-9PM and Thursday March 23, 2023 8:30AM-9:30AM at Monti-Rago Funeral Home 2531-35 S. Broad St.,Philadephia PA 19148. Funeral Mass 10AM, Epiphany of Our Lord Church 11TH and Jackson Street. Int. S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, The family requested donations be made to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania 2900 Southhampton Rd, Philadelphia, PA thru their website.
